Perfect The Golf Swing Once And For All

If you're a golfer, by now, you know the challenges the game holds. While it is a very fun game to play it can drive golfers, of any skill level, to deep levels of frustration at times. A question that is often asked by golfers is what they can do to perfect the golf swing. Rest assured that there are a number of things you can do to easily perfect the golf swing.

Everything that you do in life can be broken down into steps. Take something as common as driving your car. First you unlock the door, put your seat belt on (hopefully), turn the car on and put it into drive etc... Your golf swing is the same way. It can be broken down into different phases and steps.

There are lots of golfers that have a solid and nice swing from start to finish, but they forget the basics and ignore their stance and how they line up their shots. This is very important! If you have the seat too far back in your car you will have a tough time reaching the pedals. Same goes with golf. If your stance and alignment are wrong you are making it much harder for yourself.

The most common problem I notice is that a player will set up to the ball and the first thing they do is set their feet before they set the club behind the ball. You always want to set the club head towards the target first and then allow your feet and body to align and parallel with the club head. If you set your feet first, before the club, you will nearly always be pointing in different directions. Your shoulders and body may appear parallel to the club, but the club will be either facing to the left or right. You aim with the club head and then allow your body to come in line. Never aim with just your body because this certainly does not help to perfect the golf swing!

Another common problem I see is players who are either standing to close to the ball or too far away. Assuming you are a right handed golfer if a lot of your shots are pulled to the left you are, most likely, standing too close. If your shots are being pushed off to the right you are too far away.

When I am in my stance I like to have at least one hand (thumb to pinky) width between the butt of the club and my body. This will help keep you the perfect distance from the ball. By having the correct distance you will allow the club to travel on the correct swing plane which will result in straighter shots and more consistency. You are now one step closer to understanding how to perfect the golf swing!

Anything new takes a period of adjustment. If you consistently practice on your alignment you will become more comfortable and confident in your abilities. You now have learned one of the big steps in knowing how to perfect the golf swing.
